The title has certain personal meaning to me.
A phoenix is a mythical bird that ignites and burns itself to ashes at death to be reborn again as a newer, younger bird... I guess this phoenix is broken. The ash is burnt newspaper. The eggs are just brown eggs I cracked and made an omelette with, then washed and dried the shells. I put two ball-bearings in the shells so they would tip at the right angle, and sprinkled the ash into a pile between them. For my setup I used two full-spectrum bulbs with tissue paper literally taped over them to diffuse the light a little, and I had a hot halogen lamp above. I used a mini tripod with my Fujifilm FinePix F30 at ISO 100. Minor adjustments in Paint Shop Pro to adjust contrast, etc. |

This is with your homemade lightbox thing, yes? It looks very professional.
I do agree that you need less ash. There's way too much to realistically fit inside the shell.
And about the ash... Phoenixes are MAGICAL, so they can do things like squeeze into eggs. Besides, ash compacts really easily if you've ever messed with it. But I agree - it looks a little odd.
To preserve some of my dignity, I know what bristol board is. Though.. I've only used it with Sharpies.
I love the idea...
